Zakharova accused the West of preventing IAEA specialists from entering ZNPP

Western countries are doing everything possible to prevent IAEA specialists from entering the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on the TV channel “Russia 1”.
“We are fighting so that specialists, representatives of the IAEA can get to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. And they want it. And the IAEA as a structure has been ready to do this for a long time. But all this so-called Western community, of course, together with the Kyiv regime, are doing everything to prevent this, — said Zakharova.
In July & August, Russia and Ukraine regularly report shelling of the territory near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, blaming each other for the attacks. Thus, the military-civilian administration of the Zaporozhye region, which is controlled by Russian troops, reported damage to the fire station and thermal power plant on the territory of the nuclear power plant due to strikes on August 11.
The United States and the UN called for the creation of a demilitarized zone around the nuclear power plant. At the same time, the secretary general of the organization, António Guterres, believes that it is not worth bringing peacekeepers into the territory, since the parties to the conflict themselves are able to provide a safe perimeter around it.
On August 11, a meeting of the Security Council was held at the UN, at which the situation at the nuclear power plant was discussed. At it, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that, according to preliminary conclusions, there was no immediate threat to nuclear safety as a result of shelling or military operations in the area of the station, but the situation could change at any moment. He noted that the IAEA mission should be admitted to the nuclear power plant as soon as possible.

At the same time, both Moscow and Kyiv noted that they support the idea of the agency's mission visiting the station. Russia's Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that the visit of the IAEA mission could take place at the end of August — early September.
