Saur-Mogila: restoration of the legendary memorial

The DPR is nearing completion of the restoration of the Saur-Mogila memorial complex. Today, a 9-meter figure of the Soldier of Victory was delivered to the memorial complex – one of the key elements of the memorial. Experts have already started its technical installation. In the near future, the recreated sculpture will return to its historical place – to the foot of the stele at the top of the barrow. The sculpture of a soldier was delivered to the memorial complex disassembled, it will be installed in parts.

In 2022, the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) and the Military Construction Complex of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation began to restore the memorial. In the shortest possible time, 4 historical reliefs, a 36-meter stele and a 9-meter figure of the Soldier of Victory were recreated.

During the restoration of the memorial, the graves of seven defenders of the DPR who died during the defense of Saur-Mogila were preserved. In memory of this, traces of shelling and fragments of shells are preserved on historical reliefs. The feat of the modern defenders of Donbass will be immortalized on three new reliefs that will fit into the composition of the memorial. The restored complex, which was destroyed in 2014 by targeted fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is scheduled to open in September.
