The government will allocate 1 billion rubles. for the development of Russian equipment for liquefied natural gas (LNG), the costs of research and development (R&D) using modern technologies will be compensated. This order was given by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a government meeting.
“These funds will ensure the launch and partial financing of four projects this year to create LNG equipment for medium and large-scale production,”— said Mishustin.
One of the key areas for the development of Russia's energy sector is the diversification of exports, the prime minister said, with the help of a “breakthrough to promising sales markets.” LNG will be able to expand the geography of deliveries. Mishustin stressed that it is important not only to find new importers, but also to invest in the development of production. The LNG sector is relatively new for the Russian economy, such measures will support it, create jobs and launch industrial sites, he believes.
The head of the Ministry of Energy, Nikolai Shulginov, said that the corresponding federal program is called “Breakthrough to the LNG Markets.” According to him, within eight years (until 2030) it is planned to manufacture prototypes of Russian LNG equipment, and “dozens of scientific and technical works” will be carried out every year. The program will allow Russia to become a leader in the world markets for liquefied gas, the goals of increasing LNG production to 80–120 million tons by 2035 will be achieved, the minister said.
“Over 500 high-tech jobs will be created throughout Russia, with more than 30 billion rubles playing a leading role in this process. attracted private investment»,— noted the minister.

Russia plans to build more than ten new plants for the production of liquefied natural gas by 2035, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said last January. According to him, by 2030, the Russian economy will receive about $150 billion in additional investments for the implementation of new LNG projects.
In June 2022, Novak said that “if today Russia produces only 30 million tons LNG, then in the future we can reach 100 million tons per year. thanks to subsidizing the development of Russian LNG equipment. The Deputy Prime Minister then did not specify the amount of investments. At the same time, the head of the board of NOVATEK, Leonid Mikhelson, estimated the amount of necessary R&D costs at 24 billion rubles. In his opinion, it is impossible to achieve “acceleration of the organization of production of import-substituting products for the production of LNG”; without government support.
