Former special presidential envoy for sustainable development and ex-head of Rosnano Anatoly Chubais, who was hospitalized with a diagnosis of “Guillain's syndrome”; Barre, became ill during a holiday in Sardinia, according to La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera.
Guillain Syndrome— Barre— is a rare disease in which the human immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. The disease can affect the nerves that control muscle movement or transmit pain, temperature, and touch sensations, and lead to muscle weakness and loss of sensation in the limbs. Most people make a full recovery; severe cases are rare, but can lead to almost complete paralysis.
According to Corriere, Chubais felt unwell while in the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) resort. He was admitted to a hospital in the city of Olbia in the north-east of Sardinia, he is in serious condition, the article says.
Repubblica notes that Chubais did not complain about his state of health, he suddenly became ill; the police brought in their experts to find out if there was any talk of poisoning. A Reuters source close to the former presidential envoy said: “I don't think it's poisoning.” According to another interlocutor, Chubais is sure that he fell ill. The agency writes that he is still in intensive care. Agency sources claim that the ex-head of Rosnano cannot walk, but can talk.
According to Repubblica, Chubais spent the last few weeks on vacation on an Italian island. According to the newspaper, after leaving Russia, he went to Turkey, and then— to Israel, after which he arrived in Italy in May. In this country, he, in particular, visited Tuscany, where, according to the publication, he owns real estate. In May, a representative of Chubais denied this, noting that the former head of Rosnano he has not been to Italy for the last few months, and he has no real estate abroad.
On the eve of Chubais's hospitalization, journalist Ksenia Sobchak reported, referring to his wife Avdotya Smirnova. According to the wife of the former special representative of the president, Chubais was put in intensive care after his arms and legs began to be taken away. He himself said that he was in one of the European clinics, and his condition was assessed as moderate.

The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the Kremlin did not know the details of what happened, wished Chubais a recovery and promised that if the ex-head of Rosnano asks for help, Russia will provide it.
Chubais left the post of special presidential envoy for sustainable development shortly after the start of the Russian military operation. Bloomberg wrote that his dismissal and departure are connected with the position on Ukraine. The Kremlin said that Chubais left the post of his own free will. In April, AFK Sistema reported that Chubais left the board of directors of the company; he also resigned as co-chairman of the Renewable Energy Development Association.
