Nizhny Novgorod fair: history in photographs
Nizhny Novgorod Fair — the largest fair in Russia, a phenomenon of national heritage. The history of the Nizhny Novgorod fair has more than four centuries. Being on the way of the main waterway of Russia – Volga, in close proximity to Moscow, the Nizhny Novgorod Fair performed the most important function of the “exchange yard of Europe with Asia”.
Here, goods produced in the most remote regions of the world were sold, but the main trade on it was with the East: China, Persia and Central Asia, so it was called the “key of trade with Asia.” Thanks to the scale and significance of the fair, Nizhny Novgorod has gained worldwide fame and the title of a merchant center – «Pocket of Russia».
