The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Moldova conducts a search in the house of an accountant of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM). Ziarul de Gardă reports this with reference to the department.

According to the prosecutor's office, he, along with the former head of state and other persons, is accused of complicity in obtaining funding for the party from a criminal group created and led by oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc.

The accountant has also been charged with falsifying party financial statements for 2018 and 2019, falsifying official documents, and laundering money by an organized crime group.

The former president of Moldova and the former head of the party, Igor Dodon, was detained and placed under house arrest for a month at the end of May, after which the arrest was extended twice. The case against him was initiated under four articles of the Criminal Code: he is accused of passive corruption, receiving political party funding from a criminal organization, illicit enrichment and treason.

The basis for initiating the case was footage from 2019 from the office of the Democratic Party of Moldova. In the video, businessman Vladimir Plahotniuc, who headed the party, hands Dodon a package, presumably with money. In Moldova, this incident is known as the “bag case”.

The ex-president denied receiving money from Plahotniuc, stated that the case against him was political and fabricated by order of the current president of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

Sandu, in turn, expressed the hope that the prosecutor's office “does not engage in political games either on someone else's or on their own initiative.” She also focused on leaks of information about the case, which are “alarming”.

In the Kremlin, commenting on the Dodon case, they expressed their concern about the situation and pointed to the use of the practice of persecution “against those who are supporters of development of friendly mutually beneficial relations» with Russia.

In early June, employees of the Moldovan prosecutor’s office searched the office of the opposition Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) and seized documents.

prosecutors are now confiscating documents at the headquarters of the PSRM. This operation is part of an investigation into the illegal financing of a political party, — said the press secretary of the country's Prosecutor General's Office Maryana Kerpek.
