Two people were injured in a fire and explosions at an ammunition storage site in the Dzhankoy district of Crimea, head of the region Sergei Aksenov said in his Telegram.

“At the moment, detonation continues. There are two victims among the civilian population, nothing threatens their lives. There is an evacuation of residents, to ensure the safety of people taken out of the five-kilometer zone. The Russian Defense Ministry clarified that the fire at the temporary ammunition depot broke out around 6:15 Moscow time near the village of Maiskoye. “As a result of the fire, the stored ammunition detonated,” — the ministry added.

No serious casualties have been identified, measures are being taken to extinguish the fire and find out the causes of the fire, the ministry said.

Earlier, a representative of the Mayskoye village administration said that the detonation occurred on a former farm, which is used by the military as a temporary deployment. According to him, some residents of Maiskoye left in their cars or with their neighbors. The Ministry of Energy told RIA Novosti that a transformer substation caught fire due to explosions in Dzhankoy, but the fire was quickly contained.

Substation 330 kV “Dzhankoy” was put into operation in 1964. In 2017, the equipment was replaced on it. This substation is considered one of the key energy hubs of the Crimean peninsula.
